Learning is FUN when you are in Preschool! Our teachers are experts in promoting language development and skill development through fun activities for children ages 3-5. Parents are welcomed to join the team in creating a positive successful preschool education.
We prepare our children to move into elementary school with the confidence and language to express themselves, knowledge of the alphabet and number correlations, and most importantly, with a love for learning. Watching our students grow and blossom is one of our greatest joys of teaching. |
By Kindergarten, children typically develop a vocabulary of 2,500 to 3,000 words and are preparing to learn to read English. It is the goal of our teachers and speech language pathologists (SLP) to coordinate language planning to support intensive language learning in collaboration with parents. Our central goal is to assist each child to attain these normal developmental milestones and be well prepared for future academic success.
Fanwood’s Preschool faculty and staff are experts in language acquisition and are equally skilled in the use of visual materials, software, and equipment to provide an added dimension to language development.
Young children with hearing aids and cochlear implants are very busy developing listening & speaking skills, as well as social pragmatic language. These children are instructed using spoken English.
Children assessed to need sign support are instructed with listening and speaking supported by sign – visual language.
Young children who learn primarily through visual language are instructed in American Sign Language (ASL). |

All children participate in daily speech and language sessions to assess and maximize their auditory and speech skills.
Children who learn best in ASL have language sessions with an SLP fluent in ASL. Parents are encouraged to participate in one SLP session per week and to practice skills with their child at home.
Our Preschool is building a bilingual community. Children have the wonderful opportunity to learn from hearing and Deaf professionals with competency in both English and ASL. Some students learn and communicate primarily through spoken English. Other children learn and communicate primarily through ASL. Through our bilingual community, children have the wonderful opportunity to benefit from dual cultures and languages!
