It is with excitement that we welcome everyone back for the 2019 - 2020 Academic year. As your Superintendent, I look forward to a year of learning, exploration, and growth, in and out of the classroom.
Fanwood is a fantastic community. We have an excellent team of administrators, teachers, and staff who embrace the student first philosophy. It is vital that Fanwood continues to provide a Deaf Centric learning environment that revolves around learning and language. At the same time, we must provide assessments and expectations that include rigorous and well-rounded curriculum aligned with college, and career-ready standards that cover a wide range of academic and technical knowledge and skills to ensure that students leave high school prepared for college and careers.
It will be our effort to foster relationships in order to ensure the feeling of value and support in order to reinforce our students' mental health, language growth, academic goals, and most importantly, to promote collaboration across all departments at NYSD. We are in this together, as a team, and the only way we can succeed is if we support each other. As the great American author, Jim Stovall, once shared, "You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help each other, everybody wins."
Throughout the year, we will also continue to concentrate our efforts on our bilingual S.T.E.A.M program. Our goal is to ensure that our students receive the quality education they deserve. Students should have the opportunity to lead and be empowered to make choices when it comes to college, career, or life.
Together, we can work to inspire our students each and every day. Welcome back and have a great school year! Here is to a fantastic year!
