New York School for the Deaf is proud to announce that the Sound Field technology is being utilized to support the students who benefit from it to ensure greater access and improved learning.
Hearing Aids, Cochlear Implants, and Amplification Devices Additionally, each student using a cochlear implant or hearing aid will also receive a state-of-the-art personal ear level device or receiver. This device, made by Phonak, delivers optimal speech signals directly to the student’s ear and reduces background noise to promote increased attention, interaction, and participation. These small discrete receivers will remain in the classroom for students to use each day.
Our educational audiologist is available on campus to perform hearing tests with children of all ages and levels of performance. Audiological services include, but are not limited to:
conducting comprehensive audiological evaluations
presentation of reports to school district meetings of the CSE/CPSE
performing daily listening checks
troubleshooting hearing devices and monitoring performance of amplification devices and cochlear implants.
collaboration with outside audiologists and cochlear implant specialists
staff, student & parent training regarding new technology and devices that augment hearing
