New York School for the Deaf 2018-2019 Smart Schools Investment Plan

This coming school year, New York School for the Deaf plans to leverage a grant through New York State to update classroom learning technology for the campus. This grant is called the Smart Schools Bond Act, and NY State public schools, special education schools, and 4201 schools are eligible for a one time sum to use for technology needs. This grant total is generally based upon the number of students enrolled in the school, or school district.
The amount the State has allocated for NYSD is: $39,154.00
NYSD intends to use this grant to purchase twelve MX 265 Smartboard interactive panels for our secondary school classrooms. These devices are both currently and forward compatible with our classroom technology and technology infrastructure. The interactive boards will be used to connect with teacher Macbook laptops, student Chromebooks, Smart document cameras, as well as independently displaying online content through our wireless network. All laptops can display lesson plans to the board with wired or wireless network connections.
The MX 265 interactive panels will improve both teaching and learning in the classroom by giving our teachers more options for displaying both read-only and collaborative lessons for the students. Our previous Smartboards were limited as being an interactive display only, without having their own independent network connection. These updated devices will allow teachers and students to share work to the device from their laptops/Chromebooks without needing a wired connection, and collaborate on the work together in real time.
This purchase is also necessary because the current Smartboards at NYSD are approaching end-of-life status. By procuring these updated Smartboards, NYSD will ensure that the classrooms will continue to have appropriate, well functioning, up-to-date learning technology for years to come.
